About the Festival

Every year the North Fair Oaks Community Festival welcomes the community to enjoy a day of free live entertainment, arts and crafts, food and beverages, children’s rides and activities, and a festive parade. The festival proceeds benefit the many youth programs of the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office and provide scholarships through the Queen of the Festival scholarship program. Youth programs keep our youth safe and occupied during the critical, after-school hours and during the most vulnerable years of their school careers.

PLANET FOGO: AN ABORIGINAL CONSCIOUSNESS!!!

Creation Myth:

As we arrive at this critical time of change, the polar shifts in the universe create an atmosphere of uprising and unstoppable energy. The year 2011 has begun with massive uprisings of people demanding REFORM all over the globe and Mother Earth reminding us of her existence with earthquakes and tsunamis. Revelers predict the burst of an 11th planet on May 28, 2011 called Planet FOGO. A ball of red, hot energy will arise in the universe offering a new world of old ways; a new civilization of FogoSapiens.

This year, Fogo Na Roupa celebrates an atmosphere of uprising in remembrance of humanity. PLANET FOGO home of the FOGOSAPIENS where we live in freedom, dancing hand in hand,  drum in drum, parading in a REVELRY of REFORM!

Regalia of the FogoSapiens:

As our ancestors believed that the closest beings to Mother Earth were those who adapted in their ways and carried her instincts in their behavior, each section will pay tribute to their animal spirit.

Our regalia will be animal prints which surround our centers (base) while fluorescent feathers and raffia represent our auras.

Colors of the FogoSapiens:

• Flourescent Green-Embodies the ability to heal, the power of growth and changes to come. Flourescent Pink-Symbolize the importance of universal love
• Flourescent Orange-Symbolizes the assimilation of new ideas
• Turquoise and Electric Blue.-Represent Spirituality and Intuition

Alas/Sections:

Reveling in the spirit of the Zebra (Main Dance Section)

Grounded to the earth’s energy, the Zebra is a symbol of balance, and clarity. It provides our civilization in movement by maintaining all within the herd and providing clarity without filters during the journey. Guided by the rhythm of the drums, we carry the potent of CHANGE, speeding the message to help pave the way of our new consciousness. We are the spirit of the Zebra, united with our rooted community. Together we move toward the future!!!!

Restoring the Spirits of the Sea (Bahiana Section)

Dancing to the movement of the sea, in the beautiful shades of Turquoise and Green, the Bahianas represent the inhabitants of the ocean, carrying out the gentle, calming, and inspirational traits of the ocean. The Bahianas are a reminder of a sustainable, peaceful environment which brings upon renewal to the planet.

Spirit of the Cheetah “CHITARA” (Passista Section)

Chitara’s on Planet Fogo are a brilliant combination of fluorescent green, cheetah markings, and natural wood and shell beads.  As the bearers of deep intuition and ‘six-sense’ detecting when something negative or dangerous is near, the Chitaras consider themselves the protectors the planet Fogo.  Negativity is countered with the joy of dance and washed far from our planet. Cheetah medicine, which launches us into motion, is delivered through dedicated dance and movement, and playfulness and love for all creatures. Chitarah’s can see far into the distance, they provide the hope and energy to accomplish our journey with speed and focus.

Spirit of the Peacock (Youth Section)

The peacock represents love, beauty and confidence. The youth of Fogo will represent the new generation of earth helpers. The youth will embody the pride and confidence of a peacock that is much needed in the years of adolescence. Wearing the colors lime green and turquoise blue, the colors of the renewal and water, a place very dear to the peacock the youth exude a new energy to the community.
