For over decades there have been predictions from our indigenous ancestors proclaiming a “change” that would manifest in the year 2012. Throughout the history of humanity, we have witnessed movements, alliances and struggles of people who fought to bring on “change”. This change is spoken as an apocalyptic revelation that will return humanity to its natural balance; the natural balance that is within each of us…One that reminds us that we are ONE, a mere reflection of each other within each other that encompasses male and female qualities…THE DIVINE FEMININE.

Fogo Na Roupa SF Carnaval Presents…

2012: Return to the Divine Feminine

2012 invites you to join in the new movement that urges people to awaken! A resilient movement igniting a new path to a diplomatic society that honors the balance of woman and man from every corner of the world. We set the location of 2012 embracing our urban environment and all that it brings to communities around the world. Fogo will be a vision of urban warriors, protecting and awakening the masses. Each section will portray a freedom fight dedicated to uplifting the concepts of the Divine Feminine.

Fogo represents the warriors of this new awakening, and uses the power of reflection in our fight. We carry reflections that honor our history of indigenous social movements, through our form activism, music and culture, we create new visions of light and justice for us to return to the balanced ways of the Divine Feminine; a harmonious state of mind that does not oppress the qualities of nurture, honesty, love and PEACE. A way that will collapse all duality and recognize all truth!

Fogo encourages action to protect human societies from unfair treatment and degradation; our actions are through dance and rhythms with origin in Africa and Brazil, representing the marriage of culture and movements through a shared history. Through Carnaval we spread this consciousness to encourage a new way of interacting with each other in celebration and remembrance of our origins.

CONTINGENT SECTIONS

Adult Dance: Warriors of Peace

Peaceful warriors are symbols of unity, cooperation and understanding. The costume balances visual images of urban and traditional, hard lines and curves that evoke qualities of strength, compassion, confidence and nurture. Armed with the power of movement, these warriors are a tribute to all freedom fighters in all nations, awakening the masses and bringing peace.

Bahianas: Viva Bahia!

The Bahianas represent the resilience of the African culture in Bahia, Brasil. They will parade in tribute to the Bahianas of Salvador, Bahia who preserve the authentic dress and values as we speak through beautiful vibrant colors reminding us of the origin of Brazilian culture and the strength of the African Diaspora.

Youth: “En Lak Ech” Mirrors of Hope

Representing the energy of reflection, the youth will be dressed in crystalline silver serving as a reminder to each of us to use the art of reflection, seeing each other within each other, and reminding us that we are ONE as stated in the Mayan proverb, “you are the other me”.

Divinidade do Fogo

Inspired by the resistance of the Masai, the passistas will parade as modern representatives of “the people” threatened by idealogy and control.

“Kuchesas Mawimbi” Dancing Waves

Over centuries, ocean currents have brought waves of people across the Indian ocean to the shores of Africa. Kuchesas mawimbi symbolize that initial journey and the mixing of peoples, cultures, and struggles along the coast of East and Southern Africa.
